Hans graduated from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and later was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

After a lengthy career at Rainier National Bank as Vice President and Manager, he left to form Harbour Investment Management in 1991.

In 2025, Hans resigned from Harbour to form Parkside Family Office, LLC.
